"A vast treasure of gold and gemstones has been discovered in secret vaults under a temple in South India. The 16th century Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, is owned by the royal family of the former princely state of Travancore. The Supreme Court of India ordered the vaults to be opened when a local activist filed a case accusing the administrators of inadequate security at the temple. Gold, jewelry, diamonds, rubies and other gems worth an estimated $22 billion were found and are now being inventoried while the temple is under heavy guard. The Supreme Court has been asked to rule on who owns the treasure: either the trust that manages the temple, the former Travancore royal family, or the state of Kerala."

news is true, supreme court is still counting the items in treasure, one vault is not yet opened and officers and media is guessing that this is the biggest vault.
but there is a problem with the valuation of discovered items.goverment officers are lay man when it comes to evakluating gemstones and diamonds.its not neccessery that all the gems and diamonds found are of high end collector grade material.
unless the siezed material is not apraised by some expert group of persons, all the estimated values are just guesses and dreams.
no doubt indian royals were fond of gems and diamonds.Golcunda mines of diamonds in south india were the only source of diamonds on this planet untill diamonds were discovered in africa.
i m sure lot of big diamonds and top gemstones are still hidden in earth as during old times there were no bank vaults to keep valuables safely so indian people used to burry them in earth in forests or they even used to get the stuff plastered into walls,so many time when the actual owner died in war or any other kind of un natural death, these treasures remained hidden and many of them are still hidden and yet to be explored.
after indian independence, the government started dissolving small royal/princely states into republic india.at that time all the royal treasures were taken over by the government,so due to this fear of government taking all their valuables, many royals wud have got their valuables hidden.
whatever government took from them, never came to public view, never it was displayed in any museum, may be corrupt people/politicians that time took away most of those things.
the only authentic collection on display today in a museum is the collection of nawab of heydrabaad state.people can go and see it in salar jung museum in heydrabaad state of india.golcunda diamond mines were under nawab(king) of heydrabaad state.u can see many true golcunda diamonds in their collection.
big alexenderite, top grade columbian emeralds,a diamond weighing 184.50 Ct
the necklaces on display have 5-10 Ct diamonds studded whee today we stud 0.05 to 0.10 cents/points diamonds.
anyways, regarding this treasure found in the temple,it surely belongs to the royal family, but the battel of ownership will be fought for a long time, and possibly court will order government to take control of it.
as this treasure is counted by the supreme court of india, everything which has been officially recorded on paper, will remain safe forever,i hope central government takes charge of the treasure and opens a museum in keala state or possibly near the temple, and put everything on display.
