On my last afternoon in Tucson, I took a wee drive to the city's edge to check out a mineral show featuring high end exceptional minerals.

Here is a list of of the vendors
And a couple of highlights:

Mineral Masterpieces

There will be a similar show in San Francisco (actually slightly north of SF):
July 9-11, 2010
at the Embassy Suites Hotel
in San Rafael, CA

I was a little out of touch with current mineral pricing. (understatement)

Most of these specimens were several thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars.
I'm going to make a point of dusting off the minerals I already have when I get home.

A good friend works for a firm that just sold a mineral specimen for $250,000. I don't have details about it yet but the transaction proves that someone out there still has plenty of ready cash. I've heard of some of the deep-pockets mineral cognescenti spending as much or more in the past. There's real competition for world-class specimens.
