I don't buy much mineral specimens nowadays, but when I visited a mineral fair a month ago, I found this little gem, even though it may not be classified as a gem, strictly speaking, which I couldn't refrain from buying!
It is from an old collection and from a classic locale. I've looked for a specimen like this for years and years, and at last it is mine!
Do anyone care to guess what it is?

Given the (somewhat unrevealing) appearance of the specimen coupled with the Norway clue the obvious guess would be Kongsberg silver; however it looks more like copper, which would suggest Kopperberg, but that is in Sweden.
Yeah, I'm very happy with it, you seldom see these anymore as most of them have got locked up in museums. There is some really large specimens coming from China nowadays, relatively cheap, but for me it is much more fun to have one from my neighbouring country

Perhaps you should seek out a similar example of Norwegian gold to keep it company I have always wanted a nugget of Welsh gold. Apparently, the wedding rings of te British royal family are all made fron Welsh gold. I have only seen a raw nugget of it once; a farmer's wife I knew as a boy had one as a family heirloom.

Then i'd be looking for eternity, me thinks! But it's not a bad idea to find a nice gold thingie too... I was panning for gold in Ädelfors once, a small community in the southeastern part of Sweden which was the only gold deposit known in Sweden pre 1900, and found a nice little nugget. I was just a newbie then and was teached to thoroughly shake the pan so it would go down to the bottom. What do you think happened? Shaked too hard ofc and it went off the rim somehow, I never saw it again!
Well, gotta find something else to replace it. I've an acquaintance who want too sell a really big nugget from the golden days of Alaska, but he doesn't know what to ask for it and I don't know what to bid for it either... Do you know how to determine the value of such things? Maybe I should put up a thread about valuing nuggets in the appraising section of the forum?

Norwegian friend of mind once told me that there are two areas of Norway in which gold is extracted commercially, one on the West coast and in Finnmark in the North. Webster makes no mention of this - at least in my edition.

Not a bad idea. You could check the mineral auction sites too. A sample comes up every now and again. I saw one the other day (9 small nuggets from the Yukon AIR) that went for just about bullion value. Very ordinary looking though - not stunning like your silver sample.
