HI,

My youngest says that he is interested by "paléontologie". His birthday is november the 25th. So, I bought him via eBay some fossils. I hope that they are real.

I bought fossiled dinosaure's bones(2), a slice of rock with the imprint of a fish and a fossiled wood.

I also bought a bigger slice of fossiled dinosaures's bone.

I would like to know how I can know if those are real. Can you gice tricks how to evaluate that?

Thank you.

Brigitte

Hello Brigitte,

The wood should be pretty safe, should look like wood and feel like rock. The fish and dino bone could be tricky. The bone slices should show cellular structure, the fish are faked a lot. The stone should have a "tink" sound if tapped on a hard surface, rather than a "thud" sound. The best advice I can give is to buy from a trusted source, I have items for sale most of the time. Just let me know what your looking for. Hope this helps.

Troy

Hi :)

Your welcome. Post some pictures and I'll help all I can. Other members here have knowledge in this category and I'm sure they will chime in as well.

Hello TravellingRob,

Thanks for the kind words, the amber in my collection is Baltic and dominician. I also have some copal (the long wand piece is copal, younger but still nice).
