This is a nicely formed aqua residing on a quartz(core) matrix. This was hand dug at a spot in Georgia called the "Junk Hole". My buddy Bryan, whose specimen it is, and I are attempting to chisel away some of the quartz core to help give the beryl some breathing room. Prior to removing some of the quartz, we had two ends of the beryl protruding out the ends of the quartz. At first we thought it was two separate crystals that were growing from a common point....this was due to the fact the c axis was different on both ends. After removing more of the quartz and seeing more of the aquamarine, we realized it was just a single crystal that had rotated it's c-axis along it's length. Here are a couple pics of us taking off the last little bit of quartz that we felt we could get off without damaging the specimen or knocking the beryl loose from it's spot.
