Nice ROM, I love the red horn coral from Utah, and yes, the mines have been closed for some time, sadly. There are also some great peach and yellow horn corals that can be found in Texas that are identical to the ones from Utah except for the color.

Here is a polished cab of the red Utah horn coral:

Super nice cab, Swishman. I no longer have any rough with color that intense. I did at one time but it was stolen along with a lot of other very nice rough. That's the way it goes.

Do you have any images of the TX horn coral? It sounds very interesting and I hadn't heard of it previously.

ROM,
I wil have to look and see if I can find the pieces. I didn't get pics of them yet, but have the coral here somewhere, lol. I just am not sure where. Everything in boxes as we are moving and we have, literally, a few tons of material, so not easy to find anything right now. :(.

But I did find some on Ebay, lol, just now looking for an image for you:

Re: stolen rough. I made the terrible mistake of storing some of my choice stuff for a couple of months in one of those rental places while I moved. I suspect the manager of the place because he was fired by the owners before I learned the stones were gone. I lost things that still make me sick to think of: fine large gem silica and chatoyant malachite pieces, the coral, premium Spectrolite, some of the best Congo malachite I've ever seen, fine old-time rutilated quartz, my entire stash of 6-ray Idaho star garnet rough, etc.

Of course I still have plenty of stuff to cut! 8)

Nice fossils!

I've seen gemmy silicified stromatolite before but mostly the fine red/black Mary Ellen Jasper from Minnesota. Yours is quite different.

Mine is from the Wyoming area. Before cutting just a plan tan/brown/cream colors alluvial rounded rock with swirls carved into the rock faces and such. Slice it and you see what you get!! Simply amazing!! Colors are so vivid and it takes a mirror polish too!!! Hopefully it will be a big seller, I have an 18lb piece top finish slabbing & cabbing, and kept a nice little 6.9lber for collection but kept it whole. :).

I have around 12lbs or the normal algae colony fossilized head. But it is even a bit odd as it is more of an agate and even some opalized areas instead of the typical jasper/agate combo they normally are made up as.

Have some Coprolite here to slice up, nothing like cutting fossilized dino doodoo!! Hehe

Also, one of my favs that seems to always put a smile on people's faces, my super rare nipple agate specimen!!

Well, if your going to go all petrographic, I have a super-rare Bruneau Jasper "moon" stone. But I'd better not post an image!
