Where I live there are roughly 900,000 people within a 20 mile radius of my house. There is not a lot of "collecting" places or land for that matter. Anytime I see some cleared land for contruction or what have you I try and stop and check it out. Last year about a mile from my house I stopped and checked this construction site..well what do you know..some quartz crystals..couldn't believe it..right down the road from my house..goes to show you never know what you might find in the most unlikly places

The crystals are found scattered throught out the cleared area from when they graded it...they came from these quartz sills in the side of the hill and trend toward the south..I have dug into the sills but have only found partially formed crystals and nothing real good so when they tore into the hill to level the land they pulled out some of the better stuff

Here are a couple pics as I found them in the ground and when I got them home

I have found a couple boxes full of crystals from this location with a few examples above.

Here are some of the cool ones and curiosities I found
This one is cleaned and is formed almost perfectly

What really got my blood working is when I dug up these two next crystals...they are huge..the first one(white) I cleaned in acid..skeleton quartz..look at the size of it compared to my hand..formed very well too.
Image

This next one is another big one..I left it unclean to keep the black on it for a little variety..check out the tip..the tip is clear and gemmy where as the rest is not
Image

Now those crystals are from last year when I went and the pics are from when I posted them on another forum to show. I went back yesterday knowing that some new material must have washed up and figureing that after showing the neighborhood kids what to look for they would have lost interest by now and left me some... :) (these are all uncleaned)

another pretty cool skeleton with the black coating

Found three more big ones..love 'em

Not to bad for a mile from the house in the second most populated county in the state...thanks for looking

More vein digging at my quartz spot
finding more Huge singles..James(nose2ground) found one that weighed over 15 pounds
Getting out some intact clusters as well
Here is Romin pulling some out
[edit] I forgot to add that all the above post were from surface collecting...finally found the primary deposit. It's 2 main veins that run parallel to each other in a straight line. The sad thing is for 3 years couldn't find the veins and no building was going on..now they are building houses and slowly closing in on the "spot".
