Here's some links from the UK... looks like some of these were made INTENTIONALLY in the mid-late 1800s.

Depending on the provenance (I'm guessing the Smithsonian can tell the real deal apart from the Victorian-era man-made stuff), these can be vanishingly rare, it would seem.

I saw a bird nest cast at the Smithsonian some years ago. Did you donate/loan out yours or did I see another? The one I saw was truly amazing!!!
