this was on pbs/nova several years ago. there was a post in the "virtual marketplace" section of the forum discussing "a $56,000 diamond rough from the sky," which came accompanied with an EGL report, and was identified as "natural carbonado."

I buy that theory much more then the diamonds that size being in the meteorite. I still stand by my original statement that a diamond that size is not likely going to survive entry into the atmosphere and impact as well. But forming due to the impact seems totally feasible to me.

Were they saying the comet/meteorite hits were actually carbanado bodies? Cool.
Linking this to another gem-forming phenomena - when some "holy men" pass onto the other side, it's said that gems form/are left in their wake, so to speak. Think it's the same sort of intense energetic thing happening?
