from Mr. Richard Hughes' website
http://ruby-sapphire.com/rantslants.htm

"The corundalope is probably the rarest of all known corundums. An endangered species, it may nowadays be found only in laboratories. This specimen is cared for by Union Carbide's Milan Kokta (left) and Jeff Cooke."

this is from a Gems & Gemology article on Zincite. i found the article on the All That Glitters website by Allen Brown, GG, on "The Zincite Story."

http://www.atggems.com/Zincite_Facetor_ ... letter.htm

"Zincite, another 90's synthetic, is reported to have formed by vapor deposition as an accidental by-product of an industrial kiln process used to produce zinc-based paint."

from Jeff Graham's website, RIP, Jeff!!
http://www.faceters.com/rough/synthetics/zincite.shtml
"Polish zincite-material is man-made by accident. It was found in a smelter in Poland after the furnace walls had developed a crack. These crystals formed in the air vents, it must have been quite a site for the person who discovered them."
