Don't even think about one of these usb cmos cameras. I had been trucking along with an old Sony 717 5 megapix with great results. But the specs on this cmos rig looked impressive. WRONG! I talked to the seller today, he said, let's face it - these are CHEAP cmos/usb devices. Software is horrible. Haven't gotten a decent inclusion in a year. It will stack images from other sources, but isn't as fast, and has no real image processing capability.
If you need a get by, you can get something a few years old, a c-adapter, or whatever you need, and a few other items - and 5 megapix is plenty. If I had saved that money, I would have had a pretty fancy rig by now. However, I am gonna run my Sony as long as it has life,,,I believe that will be many more years.
I guaranty you won't be happy with a cmos/usb rig.
It sounds like its mostly the software that is the problem. The USB on the camera might be USB1 which is slower than most cameras today that use USB2 technology. Most cameras use CMOS technology for collecting the image altho the processing electronics in that camera might not be very good.
Did the seller actualy advertise the camera as 10,000,000 megapixels? Such things dont exist (yet). That would be 10 million million pixels. Was it actualy a 10 megapixel camera?
I bought what was claimed to be a 5 megapixel USB microscope which was totaly false. It was actualy about .5 megapixel and half the illuminating LED's did not work. I returned it but they are still falsely advertising it as 5 megapixel.

yes, there is a huge software problem, even though it is updated frequentlyCameera is a usb2.0.

The "auto functions are so poor that I have to manually set everything
If I can get the manual settings right (generally I can). it does a pretty nice job of live streaming "pond life", which is a pleasant diversion for me. BUT, Nothing that is worth publishing with inclusions.
This is a non-stacked image with my cmos outfit. One shot after 20 minutes of manual adjustment! (Quench-cracked ruby. A 3 second determination with a loupe or gem scope.
