The other day, i really hurt my eyes. I'm usually very careful, but how can I be? With photomicrogrpahy and gemology, in general, we don't use flashes for our photography - so the lights are always on.
My solution is cheap and maybe someone else will think it's useful:
#10 welding plate, mounted right where it's most effective. it was 4 dollars. i think i'll buy another.

ha!
i do like seeing what i'm doing while i'm manipulating the lights.
i was watching the jewelers at work (melting plat/gold) with their welding goggles and i thought - how can i use that? this was my solution.
in the photo it looks black - maybe i should've taken a photo of the lights on so that the lights are visible through the plate.

Danny, You can't see through cardboard or something? Maybe you need a thinner piece
