I've been looking at the articles on Be diffused sapphire. Does anyone know if Raman Spectroscopy has been considered as a detection means?

Pros/Cons to that approach vs laser ablation ?

There is quite an article on detection in the AGTA site.

They just purchased a LIBS machine, which is the proper testing instrument to detect the level of BE in a stone. It is a very pricey unit, so not sure that it would be practical for the smaller entity to own one. I know they have raman capability as well as if/vis there, and apparently raman isn't useful for this application.

Because BE can occur naturally, you really need to know just how much BE is in the stone, to form an opinion as to whether it happened naturally, or the BE was induced in the heat treatment process.
