If you've been looking for a really nice set of calipers, check this out:

Nice Brown & Sharpe digital model, with accuracy down to 0.01mm. MSRP $150. Regular Amazon price $124. Currently an Amazon Holiday Lightning Deal for $52! Hurry though! This one expires at 9PM Eastern. It's been live for 20 minutes, and 25% of the units have been purchased...

I don't think it is necessary to spend $125 on a 6 inch electronic caliper any more.

Similar calipers from China sell for less than $10. I have tested several of them and found them to be amazingly accurate.

Furthermore when I see the Brown and Sharpe label/namebrand, I think of the machinist tools I coveted when I was a young man, and these were made in Rhode Island , U.S.A.

These are labeled "Swiss Made" and I have to admit I have never had any product in my hand that said Swiss Made on it that was in any way inferior.

However there is a company in Switzerland that has long specialized in lower priced calipers which were sold through several hardware distributors notably "General" I would expect that is where these were made. Here is a link to a WIHA tools (from Germany) labeled version of this Swiss Made caliper.

here is the General model I was thinking of:

I have had several of these over the years.

This is one of those cases where they bought a company including its trademark and are using its traditional goodwill to move product that is not really the original product.

The specified accuracy of this caliper is 0.001 inch which is not better than most Chinese made calipers which I have tested. (I have tested quite a large number of them using a huge set of plug gages I have, as well as setting standards actually made by Brown and Sharpe in Rhode Island, as well as by L.S. Starrett, Mitutoyo ,and Central Tool.)

I would not recommend anyone rushing out and buying one of these. JMO
