Hi, guys,

I'm currently examining emerald jewelries from a provider. I found that all their faceted emeralds have very rounded facet junctions and looks like glass beads finish.

There are a lot of surface reaching cracks of these emeralds but their color is nice. No sign of weird color flash inbetween cracks.

Is this normal for lower end quality emerald due to rapid or repeat polishing or it's an indication of hard fillers which can withstand polishing

Thanks!!!!!!

rounded facet junctions is usually from polishing with a softer lap

Yep. Also too much pressure, and a possibility that the faceting equipment isn't rigid. Also wonder if the final polish was done in a tumbler.

Had a goldsmith set some emeralds, then proceed to polish the prongs with an aggressive aluminum oxide metal polish (Zam). Result was a nearly cabbed top!
