The central crystal is really unusual at first I thought it was a number of chips but after looking closely there are a number of cushion cut crystals on one stone. It also has veins etched in between the cut crystals or is this natural? Is it aquamarine, the metal is 800 silver. I think it’s really different as I’ve never seen this effect in jewellery before.

Absolutely impossible to tell from picture.
1) Is there a maker's mark?
2) do you know what the side stones are?

Other than that - find someone with a Raman Spectrometer. They can tell near instantly.

Thry kind of look like they were glued in place and now some have fallen out. There is possibly a bubble visible in the glue too.

Looks like a glue glob to me too.

At first glance I thought it looked like a carved pig's snout, but glue makes more sense.

Have checked the crystal under an ultra violet light and it glows red across all of it. If it was glue it would show a different colour surely. After doing some research this could be fluorite. The small stones around the centre stone show black in ultra violet light.

Could you take a picture of the back side of the piece and post it. Thank you.
The fluorescence is weird. Red, eh?

What other instruments do you have to help ID?

Here’s some pics of the brooch, a couple of the back and one of the stone under uv light. It is a bit dark but you can see how the crystal is showing red. Hope this helps.

Look closely at the photos - in the center there are 5 light blue faceted objects joined by a colorless resinous substance.

In the UV photo, the faceted items are glowing reddish, the colorless stuff is just reflecting the red a bit.

None of the center stuff is of the same style or age as the rest of the piece. Probably something in the center fell out, and there was a clumsy attempt to fill it in.

What low-priced natural or imitation/synthetic gem fluoresces red? I am at work and need to get setting gems so I don't have time to look it up.

5 of those are attached to the piece with an excess of adhesive.

OK - so I looked. Don't tell my Boss!

Most likely flame fusion spinel...

?

Back to setting diamonds!

Excellent help!!! Thanks.

The piece is stamped 800, most probably indicating silver 80%, alloy 20%.
The piece is very tarnished or perhaps it was plated in the beginning of its life.

Aside from that abeck is correct. There are 5 stones in the center which have been glued together and the glue (under UV) is reflecting their fluorescence.

I suspect the accent stones are foil backed glass but that is speculation. Check them with magnification, SueWillBow.

I was wondering about that too. They could be either foil backs that have lost their foil (don't see proper reflection for the mirroring), or either non-foil back glass or the original "rhinestone", faceted quartz.
