Hi!
I bought in Yangon in 2004 an unheated loose Mogok Ruby with certificate in a wonderful deep red color. I´m not sure if it´s a little bit too dark, but in the certificate the color grade is deep red. Color in a ruby it´s the most important thing.
Also I don´t have any idea about prices at this time in this type and quality of stones.
I have some pictures as well as the original certificate of the stone.
Any opinion would be greatly aprreciated, thanks in advance for your help!

The color looks nice on my Mac.....a little purplish on the Toshiba PC at work.
Either way, pretty stone.

As an interesting Sidebar, click below for an interview with U Han Htun
http://www.mogok-rubies.com/pigeon_blood_ruby.php

Further investigation of the site describes their operation and identification reports.

Hi,
Thanks for all your help and collaboration. It's very nice to meet people so friendly and professional.
I love the stones, corundum particularly, so, when I travel,I try to build a very small and modest colection.
Kataragama Blue Sapphire:
I would like to know your opinión if it is possible on three blue sapphires (Kataragama mine), I purchased in April last year in Sri Lanka, on those dates coincided the discovery of a major deposit, all of them are certified and unheated.
I really appreciate your help and wish you from Spain a wonderful new Week!

I do like the Stalwart lab, though it's just so easy to fake their certs, and they are completely unknown around that, except if selling to a gem dealer, you'd need another certificate.
On the photo, it looks a bit included and a bit purplish, but you really need to see a gem in person.

Would be happy to give an opinion after seeing the gem if you ever are in London. I know some fellow professionals that could give you an opinion in Paris, but none in Spain.

First of all Thank You!
Really is exciting. Incredible, but still following the same conditions, the same environment, natural light and space. Taking a new picture has as result a different ruby , with a new hue and a new tone, as if it were each time a different gemstone (has something with Mogok stones?).
I think the corundum contains and represent with their colors, parts of the soul and different modos.

That to me looks slightly pinkish red with the blue\purple overtones that appear more apparent in the second picture - general quality of what appears to be described by U Han Htan as "pidgeons blood," although I am seeing more blue\purple overall in those pictures. I definately do see that Mogok stone's phenomenon of looking dramatically different in different lightings. Would be interested to know how does the ruby react under the black light - particularly what color does it fluoresce and how strong.

Hello!
I agree. Initially for Burmese, these tones are what they refer to as pigeon blood. In 2007 on another trip to Myanamar I acquired another small unheated ruby, and I appreciate that this second one has more purple hues that the first one of 2.17cts. I attached three photographs of second of 0.97cts unheated Mogok ruby (about color certificate gem lab, refers to a deep red puplish). Comparing the second is more purplish than the first, which unlike the light appears in a more vivid and deep red tone without purple hues. that curiously become visble in the pictures.

I too appreciate the stronger purple undertones of the 0.97, even though I can only judge from the lighting in the picture. It really makes the stone look redder overall than one as the first, which has more subtle blue overtones. You are in Spain (guessing on your id information) so the stone will look redder that it would here near the equator in Brazil. Although, if you want to approximate the difference, make sure to look at the stone with polarized sun glasses. This will help to see the undertones better :)

I am going to guess from what I can see in comparing the pictures of both the 2.17 and the .97 has a lot to do with the nature of the fluorescence. I think one really needs more info on the fluorescence of the stone to be able to judge the color quality better and give you a better opinion on the color. But yes, the .97 looks like it is of slightly better color quality material. :)

Although Brazilian dealers totally disregard the jewelers Guide of the US, which I think is a really great compilation of pictures and data, I think it can give one good insights into judging color quality of certain color stones: mogok ruby being one of these stones.
It was also the only publication that I have seen that did a good job of establishing standards for color quality of certain gemstones. maybe some can give a link where I can get another one or if someone is disgarding their old one:?:

The 2+ ct stone looks far better for me, yet both of them are typical Mogok color. I wonder your purchusing price for the 2+ct stone, as market price now is so confusing and outrageous.
