I took these two photos about 2 months ago. The color on both these pieces is phenomenal. I don't know the weight...(didn't mess with taking that info down)... you can tell size reference in the picture. Probably along the order of .06cts-.15cts.... if I had to guess.
Anyone want to try slapping a couple facets on some sub carat sized pieces of these? I'll send you some and we can work out a trade where we split whatever can be polished and or/cut.

Yes--the stone is very nice. The dealer's photo is very accurate, the one's I took look blurry. I will try again this weekend. I think in cobalt spinel location is pretty important. Next time I'm in Manhattan I'll drop off at AGL for an origin report to verify Vietnam location.

It's important because the sri lankan stones don't range into that same electric color (as far as I know ever, certainly not typically). Aside from those two and the specimens from Pakistan does anywhere else even produce cobalt spinel?

Sri Lanka produces the same color but they are extremely rare. Nomads offered two years ago an incredible fine cushion - 2 ct+...maybe „dioptase“ can post a pic....
A problem are now smaller but fine colored stones like this one
treated spinel (cobalt diffusion) - small, some inclusions but not the ugly large stones formerly known. But could be a challenge to identify. And synthetic spinel (flux) with identical RI like the natural counterpart are maybe a problem too.

This one? Color wise they are on par with the best Vietnamese material, and certainly they are outliers compared to more "classic" Sri Lankan cobalt spinels with their darker toned blues.
They are really rare, though. Probably even harder to find than the Luc Yen stones.
