Hey everyone. I was looking to acquire a couple light pink zircons to make studs with, and I was wondering, are zircons always heated in this color range? I have been looking and looking and everywhere I check says they have been heated. Is this just not a naturally occurring color ( or very very rare)? And I’m assuming that even if I could find not heated ones, it would not be detectable by a lab as of now, correct? Thank you!! :)

I imagine some natural pinks are out there, but heating is so ubiquitous and undetectable that you could never know for sure.

Hi Danielle,
most of the lighter ones are heated. As Heating lightens them up...
But es Stephen already stated it is not really easy to detect....

Zircon doesn't take a lot of heat to lighten, so some of it comes out of the ground 'pre-heated.' I've bought light pink rough that wasn't cobbed, and didn't have evidence of heat damage. But an honest dealer should be able to tell you if they used additional heat or if they believe their cutters did.

Thanks Stephen, Nik, and Lisa :). Good to know about the heating. I’ve heard they can be lightened even with a lighter, is that correct? I will try asking the cutter to see if they by chance have some that they know are probably unheated. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that  . Thank you!
