I aquired this beautiful Pink Morganite crystal from a fellow miner because I just had to have it. It weighs in at 72 carats and and is inclusionless and absolutely perfect. It was discovered at the Himalaya Mine in the Great Pala Pegmatite Belt in San Diego, California. It's one of the finest rough specimens available for viewing online. Usually a good single crystal exhibits a tiny little 1/16 of an inch or so of a 'window' to its beauty somewhere on the crystal. Like a tiny peek at its true beauty after cutting. The Morganite Pink variety of Beryl is second to Bixbite in rareness.

I had no idea they got morganite out of the Himalaya mine. Must be a really rare find!

Hard rock pegmatite mine producing water worn pebbles. I think I need to go back to geology school. I must have nodded off in one too many lectures.

The first time I dug in the Himalaya mine tailings was as a teenager in the late 1960's. I believe that it does produce some Morganite. Due to my youth and inexperience I missed all the Morganite. But then I was looking for XTLs not pebbles......
