I personally wouldn't be concerned if they were my gems, the fact that they were in boxes and in your purse would act like insulation and slow any heat transfer, reducing any potential thermal shock, I'd say your safe.

Actually, there might be some concern with precious opals -- they don't handle thermal shock well. They can be heated to a fairly high temperature -- slowly. Ditto cooling. But rapid temperature change either way can cause crazing. That's the only stone I can think of that might be at risk in the circumstance you describe.
