Curious if you can recommend follow-up tests to ID this green stone? The ring was previously appraised by someone else and identified as Jadeite Jade, but am not so sure that is correct. The black specks are what I am having difficulty in discerning - could this possibly be maw-sit-sit or hydrogrossular garnet? The quality of the ring mounting also has me doubting that this is a nice piece of Jade...
Should I request to have the stone removed so I can get a SG reading? The stone is extremely difficult to photograph as it reflects the lights. Any suggestions on how to better photograph would also be appreciated!
Thank you and best wishes,
Katy B

My first thought was hydrogrossular.
Just drive over, we'll test it on the GemmoRaman.

Thank you, Barbra! You are awesome - I would love to, but it might take me a while to get there - coming from Ohio!

To me it looks like Jadeite. But I wouldn't put a bet on whether it is treated (dyed) or not.
What's wrong with the setting in your opinion ?

Setting looks typically mid-century. I have a ring which is almost identical. Mine is chrysoprase.

Katy's ring could be jadeite.

Update - further testing indicated that this fun stone is indeed Jadeite Jade!
Thank you to all who gave me their thoughts and opinions.
Best wishes,
Katy B
