Here is a video released few days ago about the new sapphire rush ongoing at Bemasoandro near Ambatondrazaka in Madagascar. It seems that, unlike what was ongoing since 2012 and the discovery near Didy, this time the deposit is not in the forest covered area but in the savannah. This seems to be good news as the word in the trade is that large blue, pink and bycolor stones had been found. It will be very interesting to see the stones extracted from that new deposit. Stay tuned…

Important Disclaimer: I dont know the people at Stoneo MG but nevertheless i believe that this video is interesting enough to be worth sharing and watching for all people interested in gem rushes in Madagascar.

You can discover the complete video on “Stoneo Mada” YouTube Channel at this link:

Thanks for sharing. Have seen some striking finds from Madagascar, including Rubies. The cleaner pieces have the potential of fetching a high value in international market.

It seems like every year or so there is yet another find in Madagascar. At this point, are there any areas which have not been checked?

I just bought a nice parcel of over a hundred pieces of rough sapphire from Madagascar. Primarily pinks, and blues, but some real nice pastels, and yellow oranges as well. Should cut close to 1 carat average stones eye clean. Also recently got production of nice Aquamarine and Morganite from there.

Madagascar is a treasure house of gems that will be producing new finds well into the future. It is a core piece of the gem rich Mozambique geologic belt.
