Today I received an email offering me an opportunity to buy "very very rare white amethyst rough gemstones." I felt compelled to share.
You see, these stones are so unique that, after processing, they become "GREEN AMETHYST, PINK AMETHYST, BLUE-AMETHYST, RED-AMETHYST." Everything, it seems, except actual amethyst. Best of all, they are available at very cheap prices by the kilogram! Too bad they didn't say what would constitute "processing."
I neither know nor care whether the vendor was trying to sell colorless quartz, milky quartz, or something else, but I do know that I will never buy anything from them now. Marketing hype is one thing, but white amethyst? That was just insulting.
