Anyone else seeing crazy high airline ticket prices for Tucson this year? I alway take the same flight and its always been around $420. This year delta wants $1100 for the same flight!

Regarding flights, you might consider flying to Phoenix and renting a car to drive down to Tucson ( about an hour and half drive). In years past I have found the difference in the fare to just Phoenix, as opposed to Tucson, paid for my car rental. You could also consider getting cheap flight to Las Vegas and then driving down. ( about five hours drive)

I have done the drive from Phoenix before, I'll look into that. It is just so strange how much the price into Tucson has gone up. I have taken the same Delta flight for the last 8 years, and now it's almost triple the price.

Maybe I should fly to Germany first, then Tucson!

One thing you do have to watch when pricing car rentals out of Phoenix airport is a 40% tax for various airport fees. Often the car rental agencies won't tell you about the tax.

Hey Gene,
It is possible prices have adjusted in the last day or so. I realize this has you coming in on Sunday afternoon, but the flight is also available on Friday or Saturday for a bit more. And, is only a one-stop compared to several others with two stops. Good luck in your search, and I'm sure I will see you there.

P.S. and am assuming you are still flying out of Harrisburg PA, as there are even cheaper flights if you're willing to fly from PHL or BWI given that they are only 1-1/2 hours away.

Thanks Roger. That's strange, if I fly on Sunday the price is as you show, however flying out of Harrisburg on either Friday (as I normally do) or Saturday, then the same flight is $1100 on delta. The delta flight through Atlanta has always been my preferred way to go, as I arrive in Tucson just after lunch.

Hi Gene,
Yes, strangely, the flights are significantly more going out on Fri/Sat. I checked other cities as well, and there is a similar pattern.

Regarding flying thru Atlanta, you also miss either Minneapolis or Salt Lake weather patterns that may not be that friendly that time of year. And I don't believe Cincinnati flies direct to Tuscon anymore.

Let me know if you will be there on Tuesday the 3rd. ~

I'm glad to see that someone else uses Matrix for finding airfares. It's probably the most powerful tool out there right now :)

I have found lately that the prices directly from the airlines website or App are the same as any of the websites such as expedia, kayak, Matrix etc.

Looks like maybe I'll fly out Sunday rather than Friday.
