The emeralds look really great. Saw a few sources who offer them at the moment.
the green garnot looks really like diopsid or something from color.
Interesting to hear what they really are...

Gene, always the best! Wowza!

Justin, I want some grape agate. Drop me a line.

Also, I recall somewhere in the depths of my memory that Bear Williams did a report on alphabet agate some time ago and concluded it was an artificially induced product. Anyone?

Hallo,
@Barbra :I've seen a lot of those 'Alphabet'-Agates and more with Symbols of every kind in Indonesia as well as in India. From what they said its a kind of acid/chemical dye treatment which they also use to produce a lot of "Antic" Tibetan dzi-beads :^o which are available quite cheap also via internet.Remember,Agate dying has a long tradition, though it might as well be possible to find Natural Letters in Stones if cut accordingly.
The same doubt i do have many times with too nice Dendritic Agates ,even Suites of near matching Stones. There was an Article about those being made by letting iron/manganese bearing solutions creep into cracks of otherwise colourless Agate some time back, can't find it now, someone does know more?

No pictures here... I didn't find much of what I was looking for, although I brought back some blue Topazes I was asked to find, and some blue Amber.
I also picked up a lab created Ametrine, and some very nice Chrome Diopsides.
I picked up several flats of choice Amethyst in matrix: The wife and I will both sell those, and I'll use one flat as gifts for friends (you don't go to Tucson and not bring back something to share!).
The wife made out like a bandit with various Quartz crystals and spheres... She'll do quite well with them.
It was great to drop in on Justin and check out his goodies! He was selling some very nice stuff...

That's easily the nicest tanzanite I've seen in a while! Is it kosher to ask what it ended up costing per caret? I'm just getting started faceting, and got a few days at the show this year. I was blown away by how quickly prices ramp up as the clarity improves, to say nothing of color and size. I won't be cutting tanzanite for a long while, but it's always on my list.

I got some Ethiopian Emerald as well. This piece is pretty darn clean, 4.4 grams

The green didn't come out in the picture, but it is a very nice deep green.

I would very much like to get it cut by someone who knows what they are doing (which would not be me). Since I am pretty sure it has not been oiled, I would like it cut without oil, because then i want to get it tested as not having any oil treatment.
Anyone interested?

$44 per ct. and that was a parcel price. Normally if you pick from a parcel you will pay more, often much more. Sometimes parcels are a good deal, sometimes they are not.

My observations on buying rough is this, cheap rough, cuts cheap stones. Sure you can find low priced rough that is included, pale color, but this material will most likely cut stones that are not really sellable, at least at any price that makes it worth your time.
