AGTA Announces Cancellation of 2021 AGTA GemFair™ Tucson
(DALLAS, TX – December 1, 2020) – The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) announced today the cancellation of the 2021 AGTA GemFair™ Tucson. “We have worked hand-in-hand with the many show producers in Tucson, and the Pima County Health Department to develop a show that could be safe and conscientious,” said Douglas K. Hucker, AGTA CEO, “unfortunately, with the trajectory of the spread of the coronavirus, the requirements we would need to meet to produce the show, and the health risks associated with a gathering of this size have made the GemFair 2021 untenable and Pima County Health Department has chosen to deny our application for the event.” The cancellation of GemFair, one of the anchors of the Tucson Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Showcase, follows the recent cancellations of the Gem and Jewelry Exchange Show (GJX) and the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show® (TGMS). 2021 would have been the 39th AGTA GemFair™ Tucson show.

Unfortunately I just got an E-Mail from AGTA and they have officially canceled the AGTA Tucson Show for 2021.

Maybe we should start a thread that tracks which of the regular Tucson shows are going forward and which have been officialy canceled.

In the best case I think it is going to be difficult for any of the big foreign dealers to make it with their exhibits and personale.

I hate Covid-19

OK, this thread has been started.

As it stands now, IMO, it would be irresponsible for people to gather for any show in Tucson.
Today in NY Times:
New U.S. corona virus cases top 200,000 in a day as CDC director issues stark warning

Why is the situation so chronic in the US? Many act like entitled idiots.

But, I am open to posting news about shows virtual or in situ that are planned for Tucson 2021.

The last we have heard GJX and JCK have as well been officially cancelled for 2021. As well the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society show.

Good News.
Perhaps there can be a tentative reschedule for September/ October, presuming this vaccine pans out.

More likely 2022.
September is the largest HK gem show, and nobody wants to miss this one. At least in the colored stones world.

Can you expand on why you believe that to be the future forecast for HK.

Glad that they're making the right call on this. It's a shame but what can you do? Hopefully 2021 will be twice as good.

I meant:
-> Tucson shows, not before Jan-Feb 2022.
-> HK september 2021 show will hopefully happen, as the vaccine (fingers crossed) will be largely available by then.

So much depends on the efficacy of the vaccine coupled with the amount of people having access and actually deciding to take it.

re: HK
Many (most) Americans don't (won't) go to Hong Kong, Munich, etc., but Tucson is definitely a cherished destination.

I fully hope to be vaccinated before February, because I was in the Pfizer trial. BUT, I fully support the various shows canceling as well. I did hear that both Spruce Pine and Franklin were held this past summer and were very successful, and that no on knew of anyone that got Covid there. That said - I didn't go to either. I was certainly hopeful a few months ago that the vaccine would be available earlier and that they could restrict some shows to only the vaccinated.

Like the governor of California! I guess if your dinner is expensive enough, you can't catch the virus.

Right on, Gene!
The hypocrisy is blatant. Apologies from them are meaningless.
I agree with Trevor Noah. Newsom, Breed, etc. (AKA Entitled idiots) are far worse than the "No Maskers".

I just noticed that 22nd street plans to be open and have approval, with mitigations in place. I figure will be vaccinated by then, but still won't go.

Apparently, the G&LW's Holidome and the Gem Mall Tucson shows are postponed to April 10-18, 2021. The organizers bet there will be enough people vaccinated by then.

It seems quite optimistic to me. Not to mention, how is it going to work out without the main show, AGTA, and GJX?
