I guess they could always investigate manufacturing and distributing body bags during this hiatus.
Business is booming.

In a normal year, over 6000 people die every day in America, so the body bag business is always a good one to be in.

Smartie, smartie, Gene. =D>
Is that supposed to make everyone feel better?

Now it is 6000 per day plus the Covid deaths totaling an additional 3500 per day.
Uhm...that is a 50%+ increase.

I think your number of 3500 per day is high. For the past week the CDC is reporting 2756 per day.

But the reality is for people under 70 the mortality rate is 0.05%

In the USA 80.7% of all deaths are people 65 and older, with most in that group 85+

For a healthy person say under 60 going to the Tucson show, they would have a greater chance of death from a car accident or being shot and robbed than dying of covid.

Here are a few items you take daily to help protect yourself. Now the most famous doctor in America isn't telling you this, and it a form of malpractice that he isn't, but many leading practicing infectious disease doctors are.

And which one is??? I guess that would be your doctor!

As long as you brought numbers into it, for your self gratification.

Lets also bring in CDC recommendations on travel, and I believe it is evident on how that has been working out to date.

Quote:
Know When to Delay your Travel to Avoid Spreading COVID-19

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/when-to-delay-travel.html

Quote:
People who are sick, have recently tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19, or have been exposed to a person with COVID-19 pose a risk to others during travel. This page gives advice on when and how long people should delay their domestic or international travel to avoid spreading infection.

But if you didn't die it's OK.

Gene, please stop with your crazy town misinformation.
I'm sure there are other platforms which would welcome your pandemic "insight" but this is not one of them.
Let's stick to your area of expertise, please.
You are a master lapidary not an expert on Covid related issues.

This thread is to discuss the Tucson Show.

What was my misinformation? I quoted numbers off the CDC website.

As far as the supplements I showed, these are non prescription items that support a healthy immune system. Nothing crazy there, and are recommended be doctors who treat infectious diseases.

The crazy misinformation is coming from your politicians in California that think that 100 young guys, in prime physical condition and health, who all test negative for covid, and are playing football in an empty stadium are somehow presenting a risk. These same political leaders said it is safe to protest, riot and loot however. Please explain that "science".

This statement right here.. you answered your own ?. Professional leagues are playing in a lot of states and have, not just California and not just in the U.S. Have I missed something lately as to why you keep harping on California being the issue and the fact we sit at pretty close to the top of CDC charts, and one of the lucky states that took in the cruise ships in the beginning of all this, we might have some reason to be a bit over cautious. And as well look where Arizona is sitting in the charts.

I think the point is that there is so much fuzzy information about this unprecedented event that there is room for lots of differing views. Many are based on political leanings as much as science.

We are bombarded with all of this conflict all day, in many places. Gemology-on-line is a wonderful community of people with a passion and interest in gems, and gemology. There is a huge reservoir of knowledge and skill being shared here. I would like to keep politics out of this space entirely. I want to keep it an enjoyable place where we can enjoy each others company, and share our common interests. Politics in my opinion has no place here.

Period.

Thanks!

It seems that a few of the shows plan on opening in April. A week or so ago I even got an email from AGTA asking if I would attend if they were to go on in April. AGTA is not a show I normally attend, maybe ever 3 or 4 is all. If enough of the shows I normally attend were to be on in April I would consider going.

Call me pessimistic if you want, but I think international shows are toasted for this year too.
Maybe the local events will still happen...

The Big Gem Show held at the Hotel Tucson City Center is rescheduled for April 8-25th.

It would seem by that time about 100 million Americans would have gotten the vaccine or had already have had the virus and have immunity. We should be up to about 4 layers of face mask by that time, so people may feel safe going to the show as they do to the grocery store every week.
