Hello forum,

Please excuse me for my rookie questions,

I am trying to understand how difficult it is to buy or sell rough diamonds. For ex. online there is barely anything that's of decent size or clarity or am i looking in the wrong places and there are websites that specialize in reselling?

Thanks in advance,

DK

There were a lot of people selling them at Tucson. The perfect clean octahedrons go for quite a bit as people like to set them as is in rings. Patrick Kelley had one about 3.5 carats in his booth at 22nd street if I remember correctly. There were a number of Indian dealers as well in the Holodome, selling stones of varying quality. One dealer in City Center had a fairly extensive collection as well - I think I got business cards. What are you looking for? I will try to dig them up.

Thank for the reply. I am really just feeling what and where the market is. I am currently in South Africa enrolled in the diamond cutting and polishing program and the rough diamond program. Just planning ahead of my return to North America so any information anyone can share, would be really helpful. It is all a learning curve for me at this stage.
Is it better to get rough in Africa or is it better to get it in US or Canada?

Thanks,

DK
