That was a truely freightening article. No tell tale flourescence or inclusions to tip off an appraiser. Who certs an pear cut G I1? Does that mean that every diamond sold will now have to be typed for risk of synthesis? I wonder how many well trained gemologists would have picked this up?

Has anybody had any experience using the Diamond Spotter to separate the diamond types?
yeah, i've got it and use to separate IIA diamonds, it works (but it's nothing more than a SWUV reacting sheet coupled to a 254 Nm lamp....... ). ciao alberto

Does the short wave have to focused much or do you think my hand held will work? I would hate to use something I put together myself and find out that I saved a couple of bucks but got bad results.

as you can see from HERE the lamp (contained in the silver box) is a little one, maybe the standard 4w tube orso, dunno cos i never opened it. i think an handheld one would be exactly the same. if you don't wanna hang yourself with custom made projects prepare 600 bucks and let's order one directly from the SSEF guys. ciao alberto

Thanks. I guess it is time to do a little experimenting.
yeah and, in this case that wouldn't be so tricky or expensive. Lets shield the lamp with a holed carton sheet. let's do a little nightwalk inside your home with the handheld lamp switched on (wear the shielded glass!!) searching for a material that can be SWUV reactive. build a little tube as you can see in the SSEF design, place the stone on one end with blue tac and the reacting material on the other. connect the tube to the holed sheets and place it in cotact to the handheld lamp. that's it. ciao alberto
