I wonder if this could be the "Genesis" of something big. ;)

Greetings One & All

Thanks Africanuck for beating me in posting this article update

The World Diamond & Jewelry Industry MUST TAKE Immediate Actions on these Companies and these people by effectively Banning them from the Major Gem & Diamond Grading Labs but MORE IMPORTANTLY THEY NEED TO BE BANNED ON A GLOBAL LEVEL AS WELL.

Meaning every jewelry magazine world-wide and every jewelry show world-wide should ban them from advertizing and showing their products legal or otherwise for a minimum of Five (5) Years.
An Immediate Alert needs to be sent out by all Diamond and Jewelry Trade Organizations World-wide alerting their members NOT TO DO BUSINESS with any of these Companies or People.

In effect, BLACK LISTING all of them.

This is the only way to deal with these types of people and companies within out industry

It will also send Massive Shock-waves through the Diamond and Jewelry Industry to other people and companies who might be considering to do unscrupulous, shady, unethical and illegal activity all in the name of profit.

Some will scream that Presumption of Innocence must be observed and that any form of Punitive Actions can lead to Legal Repercussions within the various court-systems world-wide.

The Diamond Industry and Jewelry Industry CAN NOT afford to let the so-called courts from around the world to do their jobs because we all know that legal court action takes months if not years and to make matters worse is that more than likely since entities from several different countries are involved then it takes even longer and costs even more. By then the damage has already been done effectively wrecking and ruining the Entire Diamond & Jewelry Industries.

Passing and Enforcing Laws IS NOT the answer.

Case-in-point; Look at how many laws have been passed since the Ten (10) Commandments were written and passed down. Yet criminals and criminal activity hasn't declined in fact; crime has risen.

Each Lab, Publication, Show and Organization can simply write in and incorporate a simple disclosure stating that they have the right to refuse and deny goods and service due to questionable moral and ethical reasons and they (the Labs, Shows and Organizations) does not have to provide proof of any wrong doing by those being denied goods and services.

This will effectively cause everyone within the Diamond and Jewelry Industry to start being on their best behavior.

World-wide News Alerts can also be used effectively as that will alert everyone within the Supply Chain and also within the Retail Sector to effectively BLACK BALL these companies and People and will almost instantly put them out of business.

WE (The Diamond and Jewelry Industry) can not afford to wait for the courts to stop these people and companies. WE HAVE TO POLICE OURSELVES!!!

Thanks for the Up-date Empress

Well it looks like I will be adding a new part to all of my appraisals regarding diamond melee then.
It ain’t going to be pretty and people/consumers aren’t going to be happy but OH WELL
The Diamond & Jewelry Industry did this to themselves.
They have no one to blame but themselves as well.

I suspected, someday, SI clarity diamonds would dramatically increase in value.....
Might be a good time to invest in inclusions.

I got wind of this press release through Gem-A:
Quote:
A Hong Kong-based firm, Diamond Services Ltd.(http://www.diamondservices.com.hk), is to release a low-cost and highly accurate device for the screening and separation of synthetic diamonds from natural diamonds. The device, a pen-shaped pointer called the DiamaPen will be introduced at this month's Hong Kong Gem & Jewellery Fair. It will be offered to diamond traders who need an affordable and reliable tool to detect and separate synthetic diamonds, both HPHT and CVD grown diamonds, from their natural counterparts. The introductory offer of the device is US $199.

The DiamaPen employs the 405 nm wavelength for the operation of its laser beam. J. Kuzi, owner and CEO of EGL Asia who tested the DiamaPen, said that due to the high-power output of the laser beam, anyone handling the laser pen will need to wear special safety glasses.

"We have conducted a series of tests both on synthetic diamonds produced by means of the classic HPHT methods, as well as on CVD diamonds produced by Gemesis," Kuzi said "The detection of fancy yellow synthetics is the easiest and fastest job for the DiamaPen. The procedure takes a bit longer for colorless CVD synthetics, but in all cases the testing results are consistent and highly satisfactory. While this new device is not a replacement for a full-scale identification run in a gemological laboratory, it is and will be an important tool for those working in the diamond industry and trade," Kuzi concluded.

I would love to hear some independent reviews of this tool.

too good to be true........... a simple 405 nm laser pointer........hmmmm.............however, i already enquired the manufacturer for further info, we'll see...................

well it's not exactly the kinda news you are tend to believe after spending nights struggling with LN and fancy Raman spectrometers.....
ciao

Well, I hope it works but can't see how... If all it has is IR filter and simple photodetector
for checking Si defects on CVD, gimmeabreak! Live and see :D

One thing is for sure. This kind of open laser pointers are strictly forbidden to enter my country and I believe rest of the EU is about the same. FDA wouldn't like it either.

It seems logical to have a producer of synthetic diamond test the tool.

This does sound too good to be true ... even I could afford it. Let's all hope for the best [-o< .

Hummmm……interesting indeed.

I have a few ideas as to how it works or might work.

But it would be useless to speculate.
I would like to test and play with it.

The picture of the device looks very similar to the Green Laser Pointers we use in Astronomy to help point out various items of interest in the nighttime sky to novices.

It states you have to wear protective laser goggles so that means you have loose high powered concentrated 405nm laser beam flying around. Not a good idea, especially against human skin.
Probably will be outlawed in California lol Skin cancer threat lol

This could easily be adapted to effectively and efficiently sort melee on a massive scale roboticly for U.V. Transparency. Therefore the lion's share of diamonds wouldn't need further testing.

***Important Note***
Currently LOL until things change once again

Okay, it seems this is a light source for photoluminescence microscope: Here

Funny, but last sentence of the page one says: "Blue-violet laser pointers similar to that illustrated are available on the internet at widely varying prices" :D :D :D

Yeah, like this one for $4.36 including shipping :D :D
