Hello:

I have a parcel of over 1000 cttw of small round diamonds and the client would like them color/clarity graded in ranges.
I have already sieved them in the appropriate weight categories that he would want.

The challenge I'm running into is trying to figure out a range of color and clarity for small diamonds (.01 - .07). #-o

This is what I have come up with.

D-F
G-J
J+

VS2 and higher
SI
I and below

Any thoughts/ideas?? My eyes need a break

Just charge 20% more than your cost. If you cant get that, get out of the business.

The money isn't an issue. I'm getting compensated well.
I'm curious to know what ranges everyone else uses for small melee diamonds when grading them.
I mean I can break it out in to 40 different categories if I want, but I would like to make it efficient for my client since he is going to sell them anyway.

Tell them a dollar per point and you both will do well. How much is a honey bee worth per hive?

professional diamond sorting is very sensitive job, one can sort in many categories, the more precise sorting would result to more profit.

first you have to sort according to weight, then color and at last clarity.

for weight: (using diamond sieves & weight range)
-2:-0.01ct
+2 -6.5: 0.01ct ~ 0.02ct
+6.5 -8.5: 0.03ct ~ 0.04ct
+8.5 -11: 0.05ct ~ 0.07ct

for color: (the color grading should not be according the color after the setting)
D~F
G~H
I~J
K~L
M+

for Clarity:
VVS+
VVS (can have small percentage of good VS1)
VS+
VS (can have small percentage of good SI1)
SI
I
