The hexagonal look is actually three cubic "crystal axis" perfectly aligned in the stone.

i had the chance to have a look at it directly on my scope, it's really a great XYZ axis pattern, very nice in stereoscopic view, unfortunately a 2D image doesn't give it justice....

We also got a couple of nice PL and Raman spectra, right? Though we did not dare to put it in liquid nitrogen due to a seemingly hazardous fracture at the girdle.

likely nothing would have happened but, well, the fracture was a bit scary looking and a small piece seemed almost not connected with the rest of the stone...
