Hi there,
I am not sure if this is the right section to post, feel free Barbra to move it to the correct one if not.
My friend from California needs an appraiser to appraise her diamond ring she plans to sell . Can anyone kindly recommend a reputed place where she can take it to?
Thank you in advance for any contact, address names you can recommend.

There is no Blue Book on diamonds. Does she have any documentation from the original sale? If not, can she contact the seller and ask for precise weights, color and clarity? She may also ask if the original seller if they would like to buy it back or trade it for something else in their inventory.
The price one realizes when they sell in a secondary market is how much the diamond is worth to the buyer. How is your friend going to sell the ring? Has she thought about it.
I have heard positive things about DeBeers diamond buy back program: https://www.iidv.com/
She could start here to get basic information at no charge and with no obligation to sell.

Thank you Barbra ,
Will pass the information on to her. She just told me, she wants an appraisal report hence trying to find reputed appraiser in California, which I hope someone on this forum can point the directions. I live in HK so I am not familiar with whom to recommend in California.
This was the diamond ring given to her by her Ex-husband 20+ years back and she does not have any receipts on it. She just wants to get it appraised by someone in the industry first .

I have been a credentialed appraiser in CA (owner of San Francisco Gem & Appraisal Lab) for 30+ years. Clearly I was talking to my elbow when I was giving you advice.
An appraiser who is a member of NAJA, ASA or ISA may assign an approximate weight, color and clarity to the diamond(s) and verify the the quality of the metal, craftsmanship, identify a maker's marks and condition of the item but attributing value has to be based on defining a very specific market for resale. And even then, it is no guarantee.
