Too sad ! What a havoc ! :cry:
The article doesn't mention what the purpose could have been of a coating which wrecked the pearls.

very interestng.

Seems strange to have a "treatment" that destroys the pearl. Who ever is doing the treatment must be sure they will offload the goods pretty quickly, otherwise they would risk destroying their own stock.

Either that or they got inventive and didn't realize what the results would be. You can be pretty sure that the owner of the necklace who only bought it a few months ago will be wanting a refund. It must have cost a fortune.

But what improvement did they expect from a coating, for that kind of pearl ?

I can only guess, but I imagine it might have been for a better surface luster. If so, that backfired spectacularly.
