government here in india has just woken up for this cause of coral reef protection and a complete ban is implemented on coral trade in jewellery sector, but practically this ban is just on paper, they dont have manpower to enforce this new ban.trade organisations in delhi have distributed a paper with new guidelines that infom traders to stop selling coral. result is that all the traders moved their coral stock to their homes or to some safe vault.now they are not selling coral openly, but they all of them have several kilograms of coral in stock and they need to get rid of their inventory so they still sell it but only when they get a call for it. walk in customers dont get coral here anymore. i believe that the way ban on ivory and tiger skins have helped conserve these animals, corals can also be conserved, but it will take a long time.this ban needs to be accepted internationally, and if coral for jewellery sector doesnt form a bigger part then jewellery grade coral should be allowed to trade. sometimes when government bans something, people become more crazy to posess that,as banned items becomes rare with time.so may be baning jewellery grade coral could ultimately increase its demand .
