I suspect that a modern day centrifuge might speed up the process some.

One has to wonder how and why this developed.
Is this done with other pigments?

Before chemistry was invented, pigments were very hard to come by. Lapis was the go to source for a good blue. Malachite was used for green, if I remember right.

I remember reading azurite was also used for lovely blue seas and skies.....which are now green seas and skies. :wink:

that was amazing, Lapis Lazuli pigments was used by many famous painter like Michelangelo, Vermeer, Perugino... and many more
