Just back from watching for about 1.5 hours - saw about a dozen really nice ones, several that left trails. It is supposed to peak at 2am EST here, and mostly come from the northeast.
Less Meteors stream of Perseids in our area. But yes, nice. The next spectacular celestial event will be seen in December - the current shooting stars of the Geminids. These are probably even more intense than the Perseids.
By the way, cause of the phenomenon are debris of the comet 109P / Swift-Tuttle, flying on its trajectory around the sun.
In the news they told less of the meteor shower will be seen the next days (nights ) also.
