Looking at the recent photos makes me feel like I need ALL THE PIXELS I guess I figured out how to photograph head shadow?
Well, that photographing of head shadow makes the stones look that much more real What designs did you use? They look kinda like Void Reaver and Temple Ruins.

Woah! I love the yellow stone (the blue is nice too ) Must cut one of those, the head shadow pattern is fabulous. Thanks for identifying the cut Arya.
I've been experimenting on reproducing head shadow in a photo to give depth (my latest stone n head shadow attempt is a step in the right direction for me), but haven't quite pulled off the level that's present in those photos. Well done Scootr!

Thanks! Your photography is spot on! I wish I could show the same detail in my facets while maintaining depth.
Temple ruins was a huge inspiration for the corundum! I could't match the brightness of temple ruins so I ended up loading the crown with facets. I changed the design shortly after cutting. Had some weird leaking around the edges The crown for the blue spinel is very similar to Void Reaver! However the pavilion has a few "quirks"
I specifically designed the square for this 0.9 carat spessartite

To be fair on the depth of field: I totally cheat. That photo was focus stacked with (trial version) Helicon Focus. So it's 5 points of focus all blended together. I was a bit of a hack amateur photographer before I started my gem/jewelry adventure - so I had a nice DSLR camera already. As a result, getting the depth of field was the easy part ... Getting the head shadow and light just right is much more experimental

Design tip: put the Triforce in everything; pavilion, crown, whatever. It makes pretty much any design end up looking good.
I have no problem following this rule
All these good photo people putting me to shame! Awesome cuts everyone, good to know that's called head shadow though...I really like taking pictures that show it off.
2.79ct Australian Parti Sapphire, had to cut a low crown to get rid of an inclusion, but turned out pretty great!

Hmmm... many cherry blossoms have a pink(er) center:
This piece of bicolor corundum seems interesting. Maybe...
...if I cut it to have the colored area in the culet? After some grinding an polishing:
This one has also 5 frosted facets on the pavillion to highlight some "pistils". And it's a nice size, at 15.7 ct.
I wish the color zoning was more gradual. This is sharper than expected. The color was more concentrated on the outer zone of the cylinder, but that's OK since I wanted a nice pink, not a red. And, oh, I still need to learn to take decent pics, it's so much nicer in person. EDITED: put a better ( ) pic of the final stone

This is my latest cut, a phenakite, cut on a Swiss bunter machine. It was my first time using this machine and it caused me some troubles but I’m happy with the final result.

Sphalerite, 63.02 ct, in Marco Voltolini's Superstarfish Dome 80. My photograph does not show the strong dispersion well, and it shows up the inclusions, which are not readily visible by eye. The rough was from Egor Gavrilenko (http://gem-sphalerite.com/), via my geologist friend Gregor Borg.
