To all,

Received the Ultra Tec "sometimes" news letter and one of the items was a new sliding transfer jig. The cost of this beast is over $600 US and there was no other information on what it does, why it's better than the standard one or why it should be bought.

Anyone have any idea what this brings to the table (note: not interested yet as I still haven't even unboxed my new machine due to travel)

My thanks for any info :)

The new Ultra Tec transfer jig has a much larger gap than the standard one, making it possible to transfer dop much larger stones securely (for which in the past I have used a jeweller's lathe and now use a second-hand Polymetric jig). It also has a much larger static end, making it more stable for vertical dopping. It looks very sturdy, and I would buy one if the current SA rand/US dollar exchange rate were not so miserable.

Duncan,

Thanks you for that. I still haven't unpacked my machine, but for the life of me I couldn't tell from the news letter what made this so much better than the one that comes with the Ultra Tec and why it was so (shall we say), 'costly' :)

It just hit me the way the new Apple 6K monitor was released and the stand was extra and cost $900 :)

"Diddo"
I believe there are several maybe thousands of YouTube videos out there related to uncrating the "My" new tool. Pick one there all the same and most start with alot of excitement and end with well it's not new anymore and many other somewhat disheartening feelings. But when you have that first gem produced and your feeling better, you will look back and say "I am sure glad I took the leap"
Greg
I have had many new Facetron unpackings in our front office after GIA students went and picked them up from Jarvi, never had an Ultra Tec.

its almost the same,at least where i am from, only deferance is that The ultra tec usually picked up by the GG's,
or by the gardner. really yeah.... sometimes when he climb the wrong tree we just have to send him to do this tasks as a punishment.
nothing better for his skills any way,you know.
also cheaper than Fedex that's for sure. 8)

That's much like Apples new $1000 monitor stand for the new $5000 monitor, that doesn't come with a stand.
