Dear all,

Can you recommend some synthetic rough suppliers.

Do you know if there are any in Europe?

Regards,
Mariano

I have twice purchased synthetic corundum half boules from prettyrock.com. I recommend them.

Try Mar Gems in Idar. Their homepage is only in german, but they offer Cubic Zirkonia, synt. Corundum and synt. Spinel. You can find phone nr. and e-mail adress on their website:

http://www.mar-gems.de/index.php

They write that they usually do wholesale, but are also willing to deal with small gemstone artists/jewellers (they also sell cut products).Sorry to say I have no experience with them, only wanted to know myself if there is a synthetic rough supplier in europe and did a quick websearch.

I've used the morion company http://www.morioncompany.com/ for sapphire and spinel and synthetic gems http://www.syntheticgems.org/ for hydrothermal quartz.

In morion's case I had an issue with my Paypal order sent them the wrong address so I thought I was going to be out of a pretty good chunk of cash. However I did email them about the mistake and asked if they got the item back as a return if they could ship to the right address. Fast forward several weeks and I managed to get the package delivered safe and sound!

As for synthetic gems they do have a minimum order size, think it was 100 grams, but they were really kind and fast with delivery.

Thanks for the recommendation.

That's me. I'm the managing director of Mar Gems.

Mar Gems is not in Idar, we are located in Pforzheim. Because we (MAR Edelstein GmbH) are the German representative (branch office) of Dalloz Industrie Lapidaire SA for the German market, we may also deliver rough in Cubic Zirconia and as well in synthetic corundum and synthetic spinel.

Normally we only work in Germany and germanspeaking Europe, but we also make an exception if we have in stock.

Just for information:
our decision is official now:
We will give up our activities as MAR-gems gemstones and rough wholesaler on 30.09.2017 and retire to well-earned retirement.

For more than 40 years, we have been active in the production of jewelery and precious stones, the last 30 years independent in gemstone trade.

In all these years, we have worked together to stimulate the economy, have implemented new ideas and actively participated in the industry.

We would like to thank all our loyal and long-standing business partners.
It was always a pleasure to work with you.

As GO-member I will continue to be participate privately in the forum....

Hi Martin,

Karl Fischer GmbH Pforzheim is overtaking our complete very big gemstone stock but all rough (CZ, Nano and Flame Fushion) was sold Saturday 23rd of September on the faceters meeting Villingen-Schwenningen.

People now are asking where to get rough here in Germany. I only know Otto Eigner Idar-Oberstein for Flame Fushion.
CZ rough is sold in Internet even by a client from us online, but I do not know what new resource he will take in the future. In Nanogems rough we were the only resource in Europe so far as I know ....

And yes, I'm looking forward having more time for other things...

I missed you in VS,
Ingrid

Hi Ingrid.
We are now 2 peas in the retirement pod.

Seems like I used to have more free time when I was employed.

They make all kinds of stuff from emeralds to corundum to quartz to Moissoinite. They are Russia and have an office in Bangkok but I think they go worldwide.

Yup, they're very fun to work with. I had a great half-hour chat with Evgenia from RusGems about chromophores, growing methods of corundum, and some really crazy stuff about rutile. They also have a stash of Djeva #78, which nobody else seems to actually sell anymore, as well as a really weird greyish-green lab sapphire that looks like vermarine.

What do minimum order sizes usually look like - Are there some vendors who are more amenable to a selling just a few boules at once, or do you have to round up enough friends to make a kg size order?
