I was at the SG table last week and talked with the vendor about these diamond paste sticks. Once he found out I was a pro cutter, he tried to sell them to me as something revolutionary. They look so similar to the Gearloose product that I explained I bought mine right from Jon. Then he explained that his diamond sticks are quite different -- the lubricant in them is "slicker" and keeps the stone much cooler. He lost me when he claimed that using his product I could polish sapphire dropped with shellac and not worry in the least about the stone shifing during the process.

If they are something revolutionary, maybe he should use his own label design and ad copy?

Hundreds, if not thousands, of people make polishing compounds. There are no Nobel Prizes here.

That guy does not seem to understand the purpose of grease in polishing compound. It has everything to do with wetting the diamond so a uniform mixture results rather than coefficient of friction. If a user needs that condition, then they can add a lubricating vehicle to the work surface where they can adjust the quantity to suit the process.
Disclaimer: My career in the diamond industry has only been for 34 years.

Ahhhh, Clippy! I forgot how much I hated the Office Assistant...

Unfortunately, it seems in this New Millenium that honor, trust, reputation and quality have all been thrown under the bus in favour of making money as quickly as possible. I'm glad there are still a few old school people left.

Your new signature keeps me sniggering away every time I read it!

Clippy wasn't all bad. I made a few extra dollars disabling it on client machines.

Remember his Uncle Bob?
