My pick would be the Compear 133 (PC 05.101)

Gem Ranger, can you tell me where I can find that design?

This is how the Mehenge garnet turned out. This is the "Beginner Pear" design

Well that came out lovely, didn't it? Beautiful color, and lights up nice, too! Why isn't that in a setting! :)
The pendeloque that I'm considering with a L/W 1.71 will better optimize the yield from the piece of rough I have, though.....

I am looking for a pear design for ruby laser rod... I like old fashioned as opposed to modern cuts... about to go dig out the Long and Steele books but thought I'd throw out this request as a possibility also: the Ikeda Acorn (gemology project) with crown and pavilion angles optimized for sapphire. ? Also interested to entertain other suggestions...

Scaling C2 on Ikeda's Acorn from 48 to 55 degrees, and P4 to 38 degrees should give you a better pattern. My BOG VM is a bit unstable right now so I can't really do a full optimisation on the design.

If you have the depth for Utopia but don't want to cut such small barion facets, Superpear 96 is my recommendation, though you will want to scale tier 2 to 39 degrees, and tier C to 37 degrees.

As for Steele's Pendeloque, I'm not sure I follow, is the translation for the first angle in the instructions? I'm only getting a light return of 40% at the angles you gave me, and there is a lot of windowing at the sides of the design.

Here you go Micra - http://www.facetdiagrams.org/database/f ... 05101.html
I'd adjust the angles a bit in Gemcad ie. Pav 1 42.40 to 43.36, Cwn A 38.50 to 41.55, obviously letting the other angles adjust accordingly. That gives a nice broad performance curve in Gemray (RI 1.76)

Yes, for the mains pavilion and crown. Picked recommended design angles for mains for corundum. Doesn't sound too good.

really love this design and the outline fits the rough nicely... wonder if there's a better combination of design angles to use for this than 41/37...

Thank-you! That's a keeper, very pleasing. I feel a pear phase coming on.........

I think I would just go with their angle choices for now... the design does seem to have a nice pattern at tilts of up to 15 degrees for those angles however. The low light return isn't uncommon with L@S designs, but people seem to get nice results with them in materials that aren't very dark...

Also, Robert Strickland uploaded a new pear this month on facet diagrams too, it's similar in shape to Compear but uses a 6-main SRB as a base instead of a 16-way round. http://www.facetdiagrams.org/database/f ... 05129.html

I'll let the render in topaz speak for itself.

Can I get a Smith Bar modified for Quartz?

Just add 1 degree to the 3 bars on the pavilion, and cut the little corner facets on the crown at 45.5 degrees.
It already cuts well in Quartz, but the slightly higher angles will give a bit more tilt performance.

Awesome, that's what I figured. I have a perfect Ametrine for it.

Hi
I am looking for a simple Briolette design there are 3 I do like on facetdiagrams.org 01008, 01011 and 02.033 but they are not open. Has anyone something similar to share?

Martin

Here is a one based off the triolette concept in a similar vein to those designs. This should provide a much better lightshow though. Render.
