I just got back from Sri Lanka with a lot of new information. If you haven't read it before, here is my article on the history of Sri Lankan gemcutting, published online for the first time and updated with some new information and photos. If you read it a few months back in the Journal of Gemmology, it's worth checking out the new information, like how the Imahashi came to Sri Lanka and copied a copy of its own machine.

Nice article Justin.
The separation of cutting and polishing tasks between different specialists is reminiscent of the way japanese swords are made - between the forger and the polisher specialists.
