I like the latest version.
The cutting assistant is very helpful. Thanks for adding that.

I am still working on recreating oval designs and I was going to change the cut order but during the cutting assistant, I saw that it would cause problems.

When trying the different cutting orders, I moved tiers up and down.

Is there a way to edit the tier id, when I move the tier up or down>

It's supposed to automatically update itself. Is it not doing that?

It is not changing the lables as you move them up and down the list. I also tried to save it and reopen it.

I have not tried to generate a diagram, I was trying to complete the design.

I cold have confused it, I started with a l/w dimension, which gave me a g1 and g2 to start.

Then I started the design, and deleted g1 and g2.... and had to undo it. because I lost the shape.

Eventually I finished the outline, and I think that I then deleted g1 and g1. I cannot remember the details.

I was playing with a split main design, and trying to find a good cut order, so I was moving the tiers around a lot.

I never saw any of them change their id.

Ah, the difference might be between drag and drop vs using the tier menu buttons to change the order.

I'll fix that up, I think using the buttons doesn't rename the tier Ids.

For now either use drag drop to re-arrange or when you're done, just grab a tier, drag it around and drop it back in its original spot to force the update.

Reg, I was trying to "tangent ratio" John Bailey's "Sultan's Seat" design and things went really strange. A pavilion cut moved to the crown and other pavilion facets switched places. I would show you but I do not know how to get a screen print to work from Gem Cut to here.

Have you run into this tangent ratio issue before?

Alex

I've not seen that before, no. Did you re-create the design from a PDF or did you have the file. If it's from an existing file, would it be possible to send it to me via email for testing?

Rej,
I sent you a message and also an email with the file. Let me know if it did come through with the file attached.

Thanks,

Alex

Yes, I've received it and managed to reproduce the issue, thanks. I sent you an email as well but my internet has been flaky these past few days so maybe it didn't go out...

Thanks, I did not know about drag and drop, I was using the buttons.

I will use drag and drop until the next release.

I am still having problems getting a clean center point to start with.

I appreciated the info on mirroring, but it is taking me a while to master that. So I end up cutting a lot of 2 sym facets when doing ovals.

Establishing the initial point is a little challenging.

AND
After that it I use the jump button and it is usually two jumps to get it to cut to the center point.

Is there a way to have a CTP point box. so ot cuts to the point, until you uncheck it?
or just like it remembers the last angle, can it remember the last depth? (that wold not work for the ovals....)

one last comment,

When I am adding new facet pairs, many time the grey box that shows the next jump to meet is on the back side. There is a corresponding meet on the other side.

I do not need it changed, I spin the display to see them.

But I am curious to know what controls how the meet point is displayed?

Hi Raj,

I've been following this thread for quite some time and with some anticipation. While I have not yet ordered my faceting machine, I have been tinkering the the available gem design apps as a way to learn about gem optics.

Unfortunately due to my low activity on the forum (simply don't have a lot to contribute yet and don't want to clutter this place with useless posts) I have no way of sending you a PM to ask for how I could obtain a copy of your program. If there is a way for you to reach out to me at yastvat@gmail.com, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Hi Rej,

I learned faceting 20+ years ago, and have just unpacked my Graves MK III refurbished it, and have done some test cuts. I am excited about the software you are working on! Is there a site with more information, on its capabilities and possible release date? I couldn't find anything within this thread.

Thanks!

Pierre

Hmm, well I've not been able to spend as much time as I would have liked on this project these past months. Still writing the user's manual and planning tutorials (and getting someone to build a website to sell it)

I'm presenting it at our facetor's guild annual meeting in August so it'll out be out by then for sure.
