with nothing to base this on......

If they have it manufactured in China, it is possible that they changed the materials up on them.

If it is laminated like it was suggested earlier, there may be multiple materials involved.....

just stray thoughts.

I think Jon will post to this thread soon about his observations and theories about the cause of the UT drip tank crazing. I had a conversation with him today and I will summarize his comments thus far:
This material may indeed be a styrene copolymer as I had raised that as a possibility in an earlier post. Adding styrene to the methacrylate monomer would cut material costs to the fabricator. However, the crazing could also be caused by excessive oxidizer catalyst added to the monomer, which causes cross-linking between polymer stands, effectively breaking those and weakening the aggregate. He added that he had not seen anything like this in several decades.
I do hope that UT resolves this issue soon.

I left an old IR at my old place. I'll call and see if it's still there. I actually had a nice Fisher here years ago. The old cat who used to sleep on the IR Source puked in the electronics while it was running. Frustrating!. But you know, the manufacturer can say, "I't's fit for purpose as a water tank" and shrug. I once saw something like this on an old boat windsheild that had sit outside in a yard for decades.
