I cut a dark green moissanite that ended up almost black. I ran the design through Gem Cut Studio and there is no way to recut and lighten it up. I was curious if there is any way to lighten the color on it. I've heard that C&C used a chemical bath to remove the browning caused by cutting, but there isn't any browning, just a dark color. I was thinking of setting it in the sun for a few days, but I'm doubtful it will do anything to it. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks. I would think that some sort of heat treatment would be your only shot, with the very important caveat that I know nothing about how moissanite responds to heat treatment. But for lightening an overdark body color heat is usually the option that works if anything will. Of course with moissanite you'd probably have to be extra careful not to burn off the carbon component too which is an extra wrinkle. To be honest, I wouldn't be super hopeful for the results, but you never know. The unfortunate and less-fun answer is that you're probably better off just accepting it as a near-black stone and picking lighter rough next time.
