Hi,
I wonder how to avoid the cleavage plane for recuting or repairing topaz. Since it is harder to detect the cleavage plane than rough?

If the stone took a good polish when originally cut, I would just keep the table orientated the same way. If this cannot be done because of some chip, you should be able to see cleavage direction in the chip using whatever magnification is required to resolve it.
