I just bought tickets to go to Europe in December for another faceting research trip and I am starting in London. I only have 2-3 days to do my research but I was wondering if anyone here has any tips? I plan to spend a good bit of time talking to people in Hatton Garden as well as the V&A museum, the British library, British museum, an interview with jewelry historian Jack Ogden. I'm trying to piece together the story of gemcutting in London. If anyone has suggestions that I haven't thought of or if you have connections to cutters or old school jewelers in London, please let me know

I don't ever remember much cutting in Hatton Garden, that was mostly dealing. property in Hatton Garden would have been much too expensive for cutters. I do remember a number of cutters in Brighton, might be worth enquiring there. Might also be worth chatting to the Assay Hall, they are in daily contact with gold and silversmiths and might be able to point you in the right direction. Get me back if you are short of time and I'll ask around.

Justin, you may as well try to contact the UK Facet Cutters Guild at info@ukfcg.org for help. (or check the website)
The Membership Secretary of the guild is Jennifer Hauk - I can send you her contact details (in a private message) if you are interested. - She should be aware of the guild memberships per locale. I have contacts of the Chairman and the Secretary too, if she is not reachable.

Btw, I live in London, but I am not aware of any other active cutters around here. Being a very low volume hobbyist I don't even consider myself representative of the ... "Gem Cutting in London" :) . All in all, cut stones come from Belgium, the Far East or USA to the UK, and not a lot of laps are spinning in London :(

-o.
