I am looking for specifics on Jewelite, such as refractive index and hardness. Can anyone direct me to a source where I can get that information?

The RI and density measurements are from Dr. Brad Amos.

You can get a more up to date catalog at http://www.creativegems.com/
Good people to do business with.

So, this stuff is evidently a high refractive index and specific gravity glass? Any composition information available? I could not find anything online.

According to Kurt Nassau in GEMS MADE BY MAN (page 216), Jewelite (not to be confused with Jewel-Lite) is one of several trade names that Strontium Titanate used to be sold under.

R.I. = 2.41
Dispersion = 0.19
MOHS hardness = 5.5

The couple of pieces of rough labeled "Jewelite" that I have came out of an old collection I purchased some years back and tends to be more colorless than the more modern examples of Strontium Titanate I've seen. No yellowish or brownish tint at all.
